La Salle County Health Department Launches Flu Vaccination Drive
The La Salle County Health Department has begun offering flu vaccines daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents can receive both seasonal influenza vaccines and high-dose influenza vaccines, specifically designed for individuals aged 65 and older. Additionally, the department is providing the Vaccine for Children (VFC) flu vaccine for those aged six months to 18 years who lack insurance or are enrolled in Medicaid.
All flu vaccines administered by the department are preservative-free. The cost for the seasonal flu shot is set at $25, while the high-dose influenza vaccine is priced at $70. It is essential for participants to bring an insurance card and a photo ID. There is no requirement for a doctor’s order. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during their appointment.
In a move to streamline immunization, residents can also receive a COVID-19 vaccination at the same appointment as their flu vaccine. However, scheduling is necessary for COVID-19 vaccinations. To arrange an appointment, interested individuals should contact the health department at 815-433-3366.
Health Recommendations for Residents
The La Salle County Health Department strongly encourages all eligible residents to get their flu and COVID-19 vaccines as the cold and flu season approaches. To mitigate the risk of contracting the flu, the department advises both adults and children to adopt good hygiene practices. This includes covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing and educating children about the transmission of germs through contact with mucous membranes.
A critical emphasis is placed on the three C’s: Clean, Cover, and Contain.
Clean: Wash hands frequently with soap and warm water.
Cover: Always cover coughs and sneezes.
Contain: Stay home if experiencing flu-like symptoms to minimize the spread of illness.
The La Salle County Health Department, located at 717 Etna Road, Ottawa, Illinois, serves as a key resource for public health in the region. For further details on vaccination availability or to schedule an appointment, residents can contact the department at 815-433-3366 or visit their official website at lasallecounty.org. The department’s proactive steps aim to protect the community’s health as they navigate the upcoming flu season.
