Mark Holland Takes Charge as New CEO of Canadian National Exhibition

Former Minister of Health, Mark Holland, has stepped into the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE). This announcement was made on July 29, 2025, as Holland expressed his enthusiasm for the role through a post on social media platform X.
Holland highlighted the significance of the CNE, stating, “The CNE is more than a fair — it’s a celebration of culture, creativity, community and Canada.” He aims to enhance the event’s influence throughout the year and looks forward to engaging with visitors on the Midway during the exhibition.
This transition follows the departure of former CEO Darrell Brown, who was reportedly relieved of his duties in March. Holland’s background as the Minister of Health from July 2023 to March 2025 has equipped him with experience in leadership and public service, which he hopes to leverage for the CNE’s future initiatives.
The CNE, one of Canada’s most significant events, is scheduled to run from August 15 to September 1, 2025. This annual exhibition is known for its diverse attractions, showcasing local and national culture while offering entertainment and culinary delights. With Holland at the helm, there is anticipation regarding potential changes and innovations that could enhance the visitor experience.
As the CNE prepares for its upcoming season, stakeholders are keenly observing how Holland’s leadership will shape the event’s trajectory, particularly in expanding its outreach and community involvement. The CNE has long been a staple in Toronto, drawing millions of visitors each year, and Holland’s vision may signal a new chapter for the organization.
In his new role, Holland has expressed a commitment to not only maintaining the CNE’s legacy but also to introducing fresh ideas that resonate with modern audiences, ensuring that it remains a vibrant part of the Canadian cultural landscape.
