Rural Health Minister Highlights $462M Investment in Saskatchewan
The Minister of Rural and Remote Health in Saskatchewan is visiting Prince Albert and Shellbrook today to engage with local leaders and healthcare professionals. The purpose of this tour is to discuss significant government investments in healthcare. This year, the provincial budget allocated a remarkable $462 million for major capital projects across the healthcare sector.
One of the most notable projects is the construction of the Prince Albert Victoria Hospital Acute Care Tower, which has received $322 million from this budget. Currently, the project has achieved a construction milestone of 25 percent completion. Upon its anticipated completion, this facility will enhance hospital capacity by 40 percent, increasing the number of inpatient beds to 242.
Minister Carr emphasized the government’s commitment to improving healthcare access for residents. “Our government is proud of the investments we are making in health infrastructure throughout the province and are committed to improving access to health care for patients,” he stated. “Our priority is ensuring all residents of Saskatchewan receive the care they need, when they need it, close to home.”
In addition to the Acute Care Tower, the Saskatchewan government has invested $3.4 million in the existing hospital since the fiscal year 2024-25. Recent improvements include the acquisition of a new anesthetic machine and software for endoscopy procedures. Future enhancements will encompass the installation of an elevator, roof repairs, building envelope upgrades, and HVAC improvements. The facility will also benefit from new medical equipment, such as an ENT microscope, a fracture table, and a cryostat for anatomic pathology, all aimed at facilitating rapid diagnoses.
The Parkland Integrated Health Centre in Shellbrook is also set to benefit from these investments, receiving $1.45 million specifically for the replacement of its exterior walls. This funding is part of a broader strategy to enhance healthcare facilities throughout Saskatchewan.
As the province continues to invest heavily in healthcare infrastructure, residents can expect improved services that align with their healthcare needs. The government’s focus on local healthcare solutions is a promising step towards ensuring quality care is accessible to everyone in the region.
