Veteran Journalist Beverly Thomson Passes Away at 61 After Cancer Battle

Canadian journalist Beverly Thomson has died at the age of 61 following a prolonged battle with cancer. Thomson, who passed away on the morning of September 14, 2025, was widely recognized for her contributions to journalism and her commitment to raising awareness about breast cancer.
Career Highlights and Contributions
Born and raised in the Toronto area, Thomson began her journalism career at a small radio station in Newmarket. She later worked at what is now known as CityNews 680 before becoming an on-air reporter with CTV. Her career also included a stint at Global News, where she co-anchored before returning to CTV as the co-host of Canada AM and later continuing her work on CTV News Channel.
Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002, Thomson became a prominent advocate for breast cancer awareness, using her platform to educate others about the disease. Her dedication to journalism and her advocacy work earned her a lifetime achievement award from the Radio Television Digital News Association of Canada in October 2024.
Throughout her career, Thomson was known for her high-profile interviews with politicians and celebrities. Notable moments included her coverage of the 2016 U.S. election and one-on-one interviews with influential figures such as Donald Trump, Shania Twain, and astronaut Chris Hadfield during his time aboard the International Space Station.
