Abbotsford is set to participate in the Canadian Walk for Veterans, which will take place in 21 cities across the country on the weekend of September 20 and 21, 2025. The local event is scheduled for Saturday, September 20, at Mill Lake Park located on Bevan Avenue. Registration opens at 09:00, with the walk commencing at 10:00.

The True Patriot Love Foundation has taken on the role of national coordinator for the walk, succeeding the One Veteran Society, which founded the event. All funds raised during the walk will support veteran transition programming, both locally and nationally. The initiative aims to ensure that those who have served in the military are not left without support.

This year’s theme, “Veteran Transition: Honouring the Past, Supporting the Journey,” will pay tribute to the courageous Canadians who served in significant conflicts, including the Second World War, Korean War, Cold War, and the Afghanistan mission. The event will also recognize the ongoing contributions of today’s veterans as mentors and community advocates.

Each participant who registers for the walk will receive the 2025 Canadian Walk for Veterans challenge coin. For those unable to attend in person, a virtual walk option allows supporters to participate wherever and whenever they choose.

Currently, Canada is home to over 461,000 veterans and their families. Each year, approximately 5,000 military personnel transition from active service back into civilian life. These individuals often face various challenges, including access to health care, mental health resources, employment opportunities, and family support.

The registration fee for the walk is set at $25 per person, with a reduced fee of $15 for seniors aged 65 and older. Serving cadets can register for just $10. Registration is available both in person at the event and online for convenience.

The Canadian Walk for Veterans serves as a vital platform for raising awareness and funds for those who have dedicated their lives to serving the nation. By participating, individuals can honor the sacrifices of veterans and support their transition into civilian life, ensuring they have the resources and assistance they need.
