Art Show Celebrates Community Spirit in DeKalb County
The Kishwaukee Valley Art League (KVAL) is hosting a series of events throughout October at the Gallery on State, located at 322 W. State St., Sycamore. The highlight of the month is the juried art show titled “Things I Love About DeKalb County,” which aims to showcase local talent and celebrate the community’s spirit. The artist reception and awards ceremony will take place on October 3, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m., providing attendees the opportunity to view the artwork, meet the artists, and celebrate the winners.
The exhibit runs from October 1 through November 1, featuring pieces that capture the essence of DeKalb County. KVAL’s next meeting is scheduled for October 2, 2023, at 7 p.m. at the gallery. During this meeting, attendees can witness a glass-blowing demonstration by artist Conner Strehl, where he will create glass pumpkins, straws, marbles, necklaces, and plant holders.
In addition to the art show, KVAL will participate in the Sycamore Chamber of Commerce’s “Witches Night Out” event on October 9, 2023, from 4 to 8 p.m. in downtown Sycamore. This event will allow participants to enjoy local shopping, sip wine, and enter a raffle for a basket filled with art supplies and treats.
The Gallery on State will also remain open during Sycamore’s annual Pumpkin Fest, set to occur from October 22 through October 26. This year’s festival theme, “Pumpkins at the Movies,” promises to enhance the festive atmosphere as attendees explore KVAL’s showcased art.
On October 11, 2023, KVAL will host the Second Saturday Art Workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. During this workshop, the league will collect art supplies for local charities, encouraging community members to contribute. Donations can be dropped off at the gallery, and monetary contributions will also be accepted.
These events reflect the Kishwaukee Valley Art League’s commitment to fostering artistic expression and community involvement, making October a vibrant month for art enthusiasts in DeKalb County.
