Vera Gertrude Maurer, a cherished member of the Neudorf community, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on March 20, 1938, near Neudorf, Saskatchewan, Vera lived a life rich in love, family, and faith, leaving behind a legacy that touched many.

Vera was baptized shortly after her birth by Pastor Sterzer and later confirmed on May 6, 1951, with her confirmation verse from Romans 12:2. Her upbringing on the family farm instilled in her a strong work ethic and deep-rooted values. After completing her education at Baber School and Neudorf High School, Vera married her beloved husband, William Maurer, on August 11, 1956, at Zion Lutheran Church. This union flourished for 64 years, marked by unwavering devotion and mutual support.

Together, Vera and William raised four children: Glenda, Karen, Leanne, and Bradley. They worked side by side on their farm in the Neudorf area, where Vera embraced a multifaceted role. She managed livestock, cultivated an expansive garden, and maintained the household while also serving as the local postmaster from 1975 to 1998. Her contributions to the community extended beyond her work, as she was known for her culinary skills, particularly her “big perogies,” a favorite at local gatherings.

In their retirement, Vera and William moved to Neudorf, where they continued to engage with their community. They enjoyed walks to church, played cards, gardened, and cherished time with family and friends. The couple made it a tradition to celebrate their wedding anniversary with a road trip each year, creating lasting memories together.

Tragedy struck in 2018 with the unexpected loss of their only son, Bradley. This profound loss tested the family’s resilience, but their faith and support for one another helped them navigate their grief. Vera and William remained devoted to their community, visiting friends and participating in local events.

In 2019, the couple relocated to Caleb Village in Melville, where they adapted to a new lifestyle, making new friends along the way. However, the loss of William in October 2020 marked a significant turning point for Vera. Following his passing, she moved to Helping Hands, where the staff embraced her as family, fostering a supportive environment that helped her cope with her loss.

Vera’s final months were spent at St. Paul Lutheran Home, where she received compassionate care. On February 10, 2026, she closed her eyes surrounded by loved ones, reflecting the peaceful life she led.

Her legacy lives on through her daughters, Glenda (Dale Carlson), Karen (Murray Krieger), and Leanne (Ainsley Williams), along with her daughter-in-law, Linda Maurer. Vera is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will forever cherish her memory.

The funeral service took place on February 17, 2026, at Christ Lutheran Church in Neudorf, where Deacon Kevin Prouten presided over the ceremony. Family members served as casket bearers, and the heartfelt hymns, including “Peace Like A River (It is Well with My Soul),” resonated within the church, symbolizing the love and faith that defined Vera’s life.

Vera Gertrude Maurer will be remembered not only for her contributions to her family and community but also for her unwavering faith and compassion towards others. Her life was well-lived, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.
