Coldest Night of the Year Charity Walk Returns to Cloverdale
The Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) charity walk is set to return to the Cloverdale and Surrey area on February 28, 2025. This popular annual fundraising campaign invites individuals and teams to walk in their local communities, raising vital funds to support those experiencing homelessness and hunger.
The Storehouse Community Hub Society, which operates the Cloverdale Community Kitchen, will host the event in Cloverdale. Other groups in Surrey will coordinate walks in nearby locations, including Whalley, Newton, and White Rock. Lindsay Rempel, event director for Storehouse, encourages residents to join this community effort. “We invite the whole community to take part,” Rempel stated. “It’s a great way to connect while making a positive impact.”
The Coldest Night of the Year is designed to be a family-friendly event, with a goal of raising awareness about homelessness and supporting local individuals in need. Rempel emphasized that “one hundred percent of the funds raised stay in the local community, directly supporting those who need a hand up.” She noted that every contribution makes a difference, stating, “When we come together, the impact is powerful.”
As of now, with just over six weeks until the event, Storehouse has already secured 16 percent of its fundraising target, gathering more than $40,500 toward its goal of $250,000. Last year, the organization raised over $242,000, making it the second highest total for any location in Canada. In 2023, donations reached a peak of $274,000, showcasing the community’s commitment to this cause.
CNOY participants across Canada exceeded the national fundraising goal of $14 million in 2025, ultimately raising $15,050,341. More than 115 walkers from over 40 teams have already registered for the Cloverdale event. The in-person walk will start and conclude at Pacific Community Church, which houses the Storehouse, providing a central location for registration and celebration of fundraising achievements.
Participants can choose between a two-kilometre or a five-kilometre route, with rest stops offering warm drinks along the way. Those who raise more than $150 (or $75 for youth) will receive a special CNOY toque, a tradition that encourages fundraising efforts.
This year marks the 13th participation of Storehouse in the Coldest Night of the Year; previously, the event was known under the Cloverdale Community Kitchen name until its rebranding in 2025.
To support this year’s walk, Storehouse has announced two primary sponsors: the Katronis Real Estate Team as the lead sponsor and Mutual Fire Insurance as a supporting sponsor.
For those interested in participating or donating, registration is available at cnoy.org/register. For further information, individuals can contact Lindsay Rempel at [email protected] or by phone at 778-617-3000. The Storehouse Community Hub Society is located at 5337 180th Street within Pacific Community Church.
The Coldest Night of the Year event not only fosters community spirit but also plays a significant role in addressing the pressing issues of hunger and homelessness in Cloverdale and its surrounding areas.
