Community Mourns the Passing of Forestry Expert Jean-Denis LeBlanc

Jean-Denis LeBlanc, a respected figure in the field of forestry, passed away on September 28, 2025, at the age of 70. His family announced the news with profound sadness, highlighting the significant impact he had on those around him. Born on April 24, 1955, Jean-Denis was the son of the late Denis and Beatrice LeBlanc, née Douglas.

A Dedicated Career in Forestry

Jean-Denis LeBlanc earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Forestry from the University of Laval. He began his career at the Great Lakes Forestry Centre in 1982, where he dedicated his entire professional life. As a supervisor for Field Support Services, he was known for his deep knowledge and passion for fieldwork, often embracing the adventures that came with it.

Colleagues describe Jean-Denis as a dedicated and knowledgeable professional, fondly recalling his self-proclaimed title as the “Scrooge” of the Great Lakes Forestry Centre. His talent for collecting seemingly useless items became a cherished trait among his peers, symbolizing his unique personality.

Legacy and Remembrance

Jean-Denis is survived by his brother, Michel LeBlanc, and sister, Joanne Rock, along with his beloved nephews, Nicolas and Sarah. His family expressed gratitude for the care and compassion provided by the staff at 3C Sault Area Hospital and his personal support workers. A special thanks was extended to Rebecca for her extraordinary efforts in supporting Jean-Denis during his final days.

Friends and family can pay their respects at the Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel located at 492 Wellington St E., where a Come & Go Memorial Visitation will take place on October 22 from 18:00 to 20:00. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
