He has even begun to recognize regular contributors, such as an elderly gentleman who frequents the shack for cucumbers and a woman who often drops off fresh zucchini.

As grocery prices continue to climb, many families find it challenging to afford basic necessities. “I remember when we could spend $300–500 on groceries, and that would last three months,” Payette reflects. “Now, that same amount barely covers a month.” The shack not only provides physical sustenance but also fosters a sense of community support and resilience.

Feedback from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, with residents expressing appreciation for the initiative. “It’s made us realize what an amazing community we live in where neighbours truly help one another,” Payette observes. Recently, a local resident raised concerns about expired food being left at the shack, emphasizing the need for all contributors to ensure the safety and quality of the items shared.
