The Children’s Hospital Foundation has reported significant achievements in 2025, thanks to substantial community support that has enhanced pediatric healthcare in Manitoba. The foundation launched new campaigns, celebrated major milestones, and raised critical funds for patient care, research, and hospital upgrades.

Outstanding Fundraising Achievements

The Better Futures Campaign cabinet received the Outstanding Philanthropic Group award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals Manitoba, recognizing their effort in raising an unprecedented $112 million for pediatric research and infrastructure. This funding is vital for programs that benefit children relying on Manitoba’s only children’s hospital.

One of the notable projects in development is the Indigenous Community Healing Space, which marks a first for a Canadian children’s hospital. Plans are also underway for reconstructing the day surgery unit and establishing a new nephrology clinic. To maintain this momentum, the foundation has initiated a new campaign aimed at raising $2.5 million for childhood cancer, blood disorders, and transplants. This funding will help rebuild and reimagine the CK5 ward, providing comfort and improved care for children during critical times.

A Heartfelt Year of Community Engagement

Generous donations have played a crucial role in these initiatives, including significant contributions from Hyundai Hope on Wheels, which donated $125,000, and matching gifts from various donors during Giving Tuesday. The foundation also received support from the Talbot Family Foundation and the K + P Talbot Community Fund, highlighting the community’s commitment to enhancing child healthcare.

In February 2025, the foundation expressed gratitude to Janessa, the 2024 Champion Child, who brought national attention to the challenges faced by children in remote communities. Her advocacy earned her the Guiding Light Award from Children First Canada and the Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals Manitoba. Following in her footsteps, Jack, the 2025 Champion Child, has also become a symbol of resilience, having undergone seven brain surgeries before his second birthday.

Jack’s ongoing care at HSC Children’s has allowed him to thrive; now an energetic 10-year-old, he enjoys activities like fishing and flying kites. In November, he raised his own champion flag at city hall alongside Mayor Scott Gillingham.

Throughout the year, volunteers have been integral to the foundation’s success, supporting events like the Children’s Hospital Book Market, which celebrated its 65th anniversary. The Book Market, alongside other fundraising events, including the Ice Crystal Gala and the Teddy Bears’ Picnic, has contributed significantly to the foundation’s mission.

One standout event, the Suspended Superheroes, raised $93,000 in October. Local celebrities and community members participated in a thrilling rappel down HSC Children’s, drawing cheers from children and caregivers watching from hospital windows. The event was made possible through the contributions of sponsors like Voyageur Technical and Maple Leaf Ropes.

The foundation also saw meaningful engagements this year, with visits from CFL players, including the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and festive interactions during National Superhero Day. These events have created lasting memories for children facing health challenges.

The foundation extends its gratitude to all community members who contributed, including businesses like DQ®’s Miracle Treat Day, Walmart, Costco, and many others. Special thanks go to children who have demonstrated their commitment through acts of kindness, such as dog walking or selling lemonade to raise funds.

The Children’s Hospital Foundation remains dedicated to its mission and is optimistic about continuing this vital work in 2026. The community’s unwavering support has made a profound impact on the lives of children who depend on essential healthcare services. Together, they are committed to transforming child health care and ensuring that every child receives the care they need.
