A teacher at Huntley Middle School in DeKalb is actively seeking community support to fund an after-school girls empowerment club. Monserrat Garcia has initiated an online fundraiser aiming to raise $448 to enhance the program that benefits local girls in need.

In her fundraising appeal, Garcia expressed her enthusiasm for the impact the club has on its participants. “I love my students because they bring energy, creativity and determination to our after-school girls empowerment club,” she stated. Her message highlights the eagerness of each girl to learn, support one another, and develop into their best selves.

The funds raised through this initiative will support approximately 60 students. According to the fundraising page, donations will provide snacks that include popular items such as Cheeze-It Baked Snack Crackers, Betty Crocker Fruit Gushers, and Pringles Snack Stack Variety Pack Crisps. These snacks are intended to help students recharge and stay focused during activities.

Garcia emphasizes the challenges faced by her students. “Because our school is a Title I school, many of my students face challenges, and hunger is one of the biggest barriers they experience,” she wrote. By providing nutritious snacks, Garcia aims to ensure that every girl leaves the club feeling empowered and ready to lead.

The importance of this initiative extends beyond mere snacks. Garcia believes that these provisions will help students fully engage in the club’s activities. “Our goals are to ensure every girl leaves feeling empowered, supported and ready to lead while giving them the energy and resources they need to thrive,” she added.

To contribute to this cause, community members can visit Garcia’s fundraising page on DonorsChoose.org. Any support from the community will not only help meet the fundraising goal but also foster a nurturing environment for young girls in the DeKalb area.
