Discover Over 70 Murals with New Map in Old Strathcona

Old Strathcona has unveiled a comprehensive mural map, guiding visitors to over 70 vibrant works of art throughout the neighbourhood. The initiative, launched by the Old Strathcona Business Association, aims to enhance the area’s already eclectic and artsy atmosphere, inviting both locals and tourists to explore its rich cultural offerings.
The illustrated guide features murals scattered across the district’s side streets and alleyways. Each mural is numbered, making it easy for art enthusiasts to locate specific pieces. With a variety of styles and themes, the murals reflect the community’s creative spirit.
Highlighted Murals to Explore
One notable piece is Urban Wildlife, created by the Trash Hectic Collective for Nextfest in 2019. This striking mural, listed as No. 21 on the map, can be found tucked away in the alley at 10158 82nd Ave. It showcases the local wildlife in a vibrant and engaging manner, drawing attention to the natural beauty that often goes unnoticed in urban settings.
Another standout is the Curious George mural, titled Be Curious, located on the east wall of Track N Trail and identified as No. 24 on the map. This mural was crafted in 2018 by Nomadic Alternatives for the Rust Magic festival. Its playful design captures the essence of curiosity and exploration, urging viewers to embrace their imaginative sides.
The Mr. Chi Pig mural, listed as No. 15, pays tribute to the late frontman of the punk band SNFU. Painted in 2021 by artists Layla Folkmann and Lacey Lane Wilburn, this mural is located on the east wall of The Buckingham at 10439 82nd Ave. It serves as a homage to the influential figure in the local music scene, adding another layer of significance to the artistic landscape of Old Strathcona.
