Discover Six Free Winter Courses at Calgary Public Library
The Calgary Public Library is offering a selection of six free courses this winter, available to anyone with a library card. These courses, designed to enhance skills and knowledge across various subjects, are interactive and led by experienced instructors. Each course runs for six weeks, catering to both beginners and those seeking to refine their expertise.
Course Offerings for Skill Development
Among the diverse range of classes, the course on Accounting Fundamentals teaches participants the essentials of double-entry bookkeeping. It covers critical topics such as analyzing and recording financial transactions, handling accounts receivable and payable, managing payroll procedures, and understanding sales taxes and banking activities.
Another engaging option is the course titled Discover Sign Language. This American Sign Language (ASL) class focuses on teaching participants how to finger spell the alphabet, sign various colors and numbers, and recognize everyday vocabulary. It aims to foster communication with members of the Deaf community.
For those interested in personal finance, the course Stocks, Bonds, and Investing: Oh, My! provides insights into the fundamentals of investing. Participants will explore stock markets, retirement plans such as 401(k)s, and commonly overlooked personal finance issues, gaining a clearer understanding of investment practices.
Creative and Professional Skill Enhancement
Aspiring authors can benefit from the Beginning Writer’s Workshop, which guides beginner writers in crafting their creative pieces. This course emphasizes literary techniques, peer review processes, and constructive feedback, encompassing all stages from prewriting to editing and final revisions.
Another valuable course is Mastering Public Speaking, where participants learn to communicate confidently and persuasively. The curriculum includes strategies for planning and delivering presentations, managing anxiety, and utilizing both verbal and nonverbal communication effectively.
Lastly, the course Introduction to Microsoft Excel 365 aims to equip participants with a solid foundation in data management. It covers essential features of Microsoft Excel 365, including organizing data, creating spreadsheets, and generating visualizations to improve efficiency.
