Dixon artist Nora Reuter has unveiled her latest venture, the Brave Arts Creative Studio, located at 115 S. Hennepin Ave. This new art studio is designed to provide creative activities for children, families, and adults. Open Monday through Friday, the studio offers various opportunities for people to engage in artistic expression, fostering connections among participants.

Reuter describes the studio as a work in progress, emphasizing that it is not merely a place for traditional art classes but rather a space where creativity can flourish. “This place in itself is an art project. It’s not done; it’s just starting to evolve,” Reuter said in an interview with Shaw Local. The studio aims to inspire visitors to step away from their screens and engage with one another through the act of creating art.

Inside, the studio is equipped with multiple tables that allow children to explore their creativity freely. Activities include drawing, coloring, and engaging in various art projects already set up within the space. A dedicated wall features the “brave arts challenge,” where children can select prompts for their projects. Once completed, participants are encouraged to take a picture with their artwork, which is then displayed on the wall, celebrating their efforts.

The focus at Brave Arts Creative Studio is not necessarily on producing perfect works of art. Instead, Reuter highlights the importance of the creative process itself. “It’s about trying and challenging yourself. Being engaged in the act of creating is most important,” she stated.

Programs and Offerings

The studio offers a variety of programs tailored to different age groups and skill levels:

– **Open Studio**: This program allows children to explore their creativity without strict guidelines, featuring one open-ended art table along with three to five tables set up with different projects. It runs weekly from Monday to Thursday between 14:00 and 18:00, with a fee of $15.

– **Mini Monets**: Designed for younger children and their parents, this program is similar to open studio but caters specifically to kids aged 18 months to 5 years. It is available on Mondays and Wednesdays from 08:30 to 12:30, also at a cost of $15.

– **Homeschool Art**: This structured program guides children through the basics of art while encouraging creativity with new materials. Classes take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at two different times: 08:00 to 09:30 and 10:00 to 11:30, for ages 5 to 14, with a fee of $10 per class.

– **Friday Nite Art Party**: These events feature various art projects, such as “paint your pet,” and are designed for families and adults. Scheduled on Fridays from 18:30 to 21:00, prices vary based on the project.

– **Private Parties**: The studio offers birthday party options with durations of two or three hours, accommodating up to 30 guests with themed art projects. Additional services, such as balloon arches and face painting, are available. Children under 10 must be accompanied by a guardian aged 16 or older, and parents are required to complete a contact form prior to dropping off children.

Reuter encourages families to register online in advance to secure their spots.

Background and Future Plans

Alongside her husband, Brent Reuter, who co-owns Rock River Disk Golf, Nora Reuter plans to sell disks and related sports equipment from the studio during designated hours. She holds a degree in studio art from Northern Illinois University and has established a reputation as a mural artist under the name Nora Kate Paints. Among her notable projects in Dixon are the vibrant petunias at Meraki Spa Salon and the eye-catching superhero bike racks that adorn the downtown area.
