Donate Non-Perishable Food at Shane Koyczan’s Concert in Vernon
The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society (VDPACS) is encouraging concertgoers to contribute to a charitable cause during the opening performance of renowned poet and spoken word artist Shane Koyczan. The event is scheduled for September 24, 2025, at 19:30, and attendees are invited to bring non-perishable food donations to support the local food bank.
In a collaborative effort with RBC’s Benevity Causes program, volunteer employees from RBC will collect donations in the Okanagan Spirits Foyer starting at 18:30, when the main entrance opens. All contributions will be delivered to the food bank the following morning, reinforcing the community’s commitment to food security.
VDPACS has announced that this initiative will continue throughout its 2025-26 SPOTLIGHT and Signature Concerts season, with food bank collections occurring at select performances. This partnership aims to enhance community engagement and support for local non-profits, with RBC employees actively participating in volunteer opportunities through their myCommunity portal.
Jim Harding, VDPAC’s executive director, expressed gratitude for the collaboration, stating, “VDPAC was successful and is truly grateful for RBC’s support and partnering in this food security initiative.”
Koyczan, who gained international fame for his compelling performances, first captivated global audiences during the 2010 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies in Vancouver. His work has resonated with many, earning him numerous accolades and recognition as one of Canada’s leading spoken word artists.
Attendees of the concert not only have the chance to experience Koyczan’s artistry but also play a vital role in supporting their community. By bringing non-perishable food items, concertgoers can contribute to alleviating food insecurity in the region, making this event both a cultural and charitable opportunity.
