Family Hosts Surprise 90th Birthday Celebration for Evelyn Provost

Evelyn Provost was the guest of honor at a surprise party held in her honor to celebrate her 90th birthday on September 20, 2023. The event took place at the First Baptist Church in Momence, where more than 90 family members gathered to commemorate this significant milestone.

Evelyn Provost, a resident of Ganeer Township, was married to her late husband, Delmar Provost, for 50 years until his passing on October 3, 2005. Together, they raised eight children, who have since expanded the family to include 29 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren.

Born on October 12, 1935, in Kankakee, Evelyn is one of three children in the Monik family. Her parents, Joseph and Violet Monik, instilled in her the values of hard work and family dedication. Tragically, both of her siblings, Joseph and Frances, have passed away.

Evelyn’s life has been marked by her commitment to family and community. As a homemaker, she played a pivotal role in managing the family farm located in Ganeer Township and the nearby St. George area. Her skills as a seamstress, cook, and gardener have made her a cherished figure among her family. The produce from her garden was often canned or frozen, ensuring her family had access to fresh food throughout the year.

The surprise party was a heartwarming occasion filled with laughter, stories, and memories. Family members came together to honor Evelyn’s legacy and celebrate the impact she has had on their lives. Her children expressed their gratitude for the love and support she has given them over the decades.
