Glen Ellyn Appoints John Hubsky as New Public Works Director
The village of Glen Ellyn has announced the promotion of John Hubsky to the position of public works director, following the retirement of Dave Buckley. Buckley, who served the village for an impressive 35 years, stepped down in August 2023. Hubsky, who has been with Glen Ellyn for over a decade, most recently held the role of assistant public works director.
Throughout his tenure, Hubsky has demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of the village’s public works operations. His responsibilities as assistant director included overseeing fleet management, facilities, and administration, as well as contributing to projects related to streets, forestry, and utilities. Hubsky’s career in Glen Ellyn began as a crew leader, and he has consistently showcased strong leadership skills.
With more than 20 years of experience in the public sector, Hubsky brings both technical knowledge and significant emergency response experience to his new role. Prior to joining Glen Ellyn, he was employed by the city of Wheaton and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Hubsky earned a master’s degree in public administration, focusing on strategic public management and leadership, from Northern Illinois University. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in resource ecology and management from the University of Michigan.
As the new public works director, Hubsky will oversee a department that manages various critical functions, including engineering, water and sewer utilities, streets, forestry, fleet services, and facilities. He will also be responsible for the operations of the Glenbard Wastewater Authority. His role will encompass strategic direction, executive management, and significant involvement in emergency operations and capital project planning.
Hubsky is set to be sworn in during the Village Board meeting on September 8, 2023, and he will officially begin his duties on September 12, 2023. This appointment marks a new chapter for Glen Ellyn’s public works department, with Hubsky poised to lead its continued development and support the village’s strategic initiatives.
