Halton Learning Foundation Launches Fundraiser for Student Success
The Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) is launching a crucial fundraising initiative aimed at providing essential school supplies for students in the Halton District School Board. The organization has seen a significant increase in demand, responding to a record 3,600 requests for basic educational tools during the 2024-25 school year, reflecting a 20 percent rise compared to the previous year.
Recognizing the importance of confidence in student success, HLF is appealing to the community for support. Many families in the area find it challenging to afford essential items for the school year, such as backpacks, lunchboxes, and appropriate footwear. According to HLF CEO Marc Clare, “We want every student to begin the school year with confidence and the tools they need to thrive. But for at least one in 10 families in our community, the basic costs of returning to school are out of reach.”
Community Support for Student Needs
HLF aims to ensure that students feel seen, supported, and ready to succeed as they return to school. To facilitate this, the foundation is encouraging Halton residents to make donations through GoBack2School.ca. Funds raised will be used to provide gift cards to families, allowing them to purchase the specific supplies their children require instead of relying on pre-packed items.
In a bid to further engage the community, HLF’s mascot, Carrie the Backpack, is promoting Carrie the Backpack Day on September 19, 2024. Local businesses are invited to participate and contribute to this important cause. More information about the event can be found at haltonlearningfoundation.ca/carriethebackpackday/.
The need for educational supplies is urgent, and community involvement is essential. HLF believes that when students have access to the tools they need, they are more likely to excel academically and personally. By coming together, the Halton community can help foster an environment where every child is equipped for success.
