Halton Learning Foundation Launches Fundraiser for Student Supplies
The Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) has initiated a community fundraiser to support students in the Halton District School Board as they prepare for the 2024-25 school year. This response comes in light of a record-breaking demand for basic school supplies, with the organization receiving over 3,600 requests—a notable increase of 20 percent compared to the previous year.
HLF aims to ensure that students have the necessary tools and confidence to succeed in their educational endeavors. According to Marc Clare, CEO of the Halton Learning Foundation, “We want every student to begin the school year with confidence and the tools they need to thrive.” He emphasized that for roughly one in ten families in the community, the financial burden of essential back-to-school items, such as backpacks and proper footwear, can be overwhelming.
In order to alleviate this pressure, the foundation is encouraging Halton residents to contribute to the fundraiser via GoBack2School.ca. Rather than providing pre-packed supplies, the initiative will offer gift cards to families, allowing them to select the specific items their children require. This approach aims to empower families by giving them the flexibility to choose based on individual needs.
Community involvement is crucial to the success of this initiative. In addition to individual donations, HLF’s mascot, Carrie the Backpack, is promoting a special event called Carrie the Backpack Day, scheduled for September 19, 2024. Local businesses are invited to participate and help spread awareness about the importance of equipping students with the essentials they need for a successful school year.

The Halton Learning Foundation’s efforts reflect a commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment where all students can feel supported and prepared to succeed.
