Halton Learning Foundation Launches Fundraiser to Equip Students
The Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) has initiated a community fundraising campaign aimed at providing essential back-to-school supplies for students in the Halton District School Board. This effort comes after the organization received an unprecedented 3,600 requests for basic school supplies during the 2024-25 school year, marking a 20 percent increase from the previous year.
HLF’s CEO, Marc Clare, emphasizes the importance of equipping students with the tools necessary for success. “We want every student to begin the school year with confidence and the tools they need to thrive,” Clare stated. He highlighted that for at least one in ten families in the community, the costs associated with returning to school—such as backpacks, lunches, and proper footwear—are often prohibitive.
Community Support Essential for Student Success
To address this pressing issue, the Halton Learning Foundation is inviting local residents to contribute by visiting GoBack2School.ca. Donations will be directed towards providing gift cards to families, enabling them to select the specific items their children require. This approach aims to foster a sense of agency among families, allowing them to obtain what they truly need rather than relying on pre-packaged supplies.
HLF’s mascot, Carrie, also plays a vital role in this campaign. As the back-to-school ambassador, Carrie is encouraging area businesses and individuals to participate in Carrie the Backpack Day, set for September 19, 2024. This event aims to raise awareness and mobilize community support for the initiative. More information about this event can be found at haltonlearningfoundation.ca/carriethebackpackday/.
The Halton Learning Foundation’s fundraising efforts are crucial, as they not only provide necessary supplies but also help students feel valued and supported as they prepare for the academic year. Clare’s call to action resonates with many, reminding the community of the significant impact that adequate resources can have on a child’s educational journey.
As the new school year approaches, the need for community involvement has never been greater. By contributing to this campaign, residents are not just donating supplies; they are helping to build a foundation of confidence and success for the youth of Halton.
