Ian Donald MacMillan, a dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and a committed firefighter, has passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, in South Surrey, British Columbia. He was 81 years old. Born on August 19, 1944, in Duncan, BC, Ian’s life was marked by service and community involvement, both in his professional career and personal endeavors.

For 35 years, Ian served with pride in the RCMP, contributing significantly to public safety and law enforcement. His commitment to community service extended beyond his police duties; he was also a volunteer firefighter for over 25 years with both the Burns Lake and Crescent Beach/Ocean Park Fire Halls. Ian remained an active volunteer until the progression of his Parkinson’s disease made it increasingly difficult for him to continue.

Ian is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Valerie MacMillan, and his siblings, including sisters Anne Batey (Ian) and family, and Rachael Moir (Steve) and family. He is also remembered by his brother-in-law Rick Urwin (Dorothy) and their family.

In recognition of the exceptional care Ian received in his later years, his family extends special thanks to the staff at The Hilton Villa and Morgan Place. They played an important role in providing support and comfort to Ian during his illness.

In accordance with Ian’s wishes, no formal service will be held, and flowers are gratefully declined. Instead, his family encourages those who wish to honor his memory to consider making a donation to the Parkinson’s Society, an organization that supports individuals affected by this condition.

A celebration of Ian’s life will be organized at a later date, providing an opportunity for family, friends, and colleagues to come together and share fond memories of a man who dedicated his life to serving others.
