The iconic Klairmont Kollections Automotive Museum in Chicago has announced plans to auction its entire collection of classic cars, following the passing of its founder, Larry Klairmont, in July 2023. The auction, scheduled for September 19-21, 2023, will feature approximately 300 vehicles and will be conducted by Mecum Auctions, with no reserve on any of the items.

Located in a 100,000-square-foot facility, the museum has been a prominent attraction for automotive enthusiasts since the early 2000s. Klairmont’s collection is renowned for its diversity, showcasing not only classic cars but also unique replicas and rare vehicles. Among the highlights are vehicles inspired by popular culture, including a Jurassic Park Jeep, Batmobiles, and a Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine.

The auction will also feature an array of unusual cars, such as amphibious vehicles and microcars. Notable entries include a 1905 Rapide 9 Passenger Omnibus and the first serial-numbered 1986 Jeep Wrangler. The collection’s standout pieces are the Golden Sahara II, a custom car from the late 1950s famous for its illuminated orange tires, and a 1926 Rickenbacker Eight Super Sport, believed to be the only existing example of its kind.

In addition to the cars, Mecum will auction over 1,000 pieces of automobilia, which adorned the museum’s walls and ceilings. This comprehensive auction offers a rare opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to acquire unique items from Klairmont’s extensive collection.

Public tours of the museum will end on September 13 and 14, coinciding with preview days for registered bidders. Those interested in participating in the auction can attend without charge. The phrase “no reserve” indicates that all items will be sold, regardless of the highest bid, making this a significant event for both collectors and car lovers alike.

As the auction approaches, updates regarding notable sales and prices will be shared.
