Lethbridge Hurricanes Honor Pittis and Elfring with Induction

The Lethbridge Hurricanes have announced the induction of two significant figures into their Wall of Honour. Former player Domenic Pittis and former board member Herman Elfring will be recognized for their contributions to the franchise on October 17, 2023, at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
Domenic Pittis, a native of Calgary, played with the Hurricanes for three seasons from 1991 to 1994. During his time with the team, he participated in 203 regular-season games, scoring a total of 269 points through 110 goals and 159 assists. His standout season came in 1993-94, when he recorded 127 points, positioning him seventh for the most points scored by a Hurricanes player in a single season.
In the franchise’s history, Pittis ranks 12th in goals, 10th in assists, 10th in points, and 16th in points per game, averaging 1.325. His accolades include being named the Hurricanes’ Three Star Award winner in both the 1992-1993 and 1993-1994 seasons, as well as the Top Scorer during those years. He was also the team’s Most Valuable Player in 1993-1994 and secured a spot as a WHL Second Team All-Star in 1994.
Following his junior career, Pittis transitioned to the NHL, where he played 84 games with teams such as the Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres, Edmonton Oilers, and Nashville Predators. He participated in seven Spengler Cup tournaments for Canada and was later inducted into the Swiss Hockey Hall of Fame. Since retiring in 2013, Pittis has taken on coaching roles, including positions with the Calgary Flames and the AHL’s Stockton Heat. Currently, he serves as the head coach for the Saint Mary’s Prep team in the US Hockey League.
Herman Elfring will be honored in the Builders Category, reflecting his extensive contributions to the organization. He dedicated 23 years to the Lethbridge Hurricanes board, serving in various capacities, including governor and president. Elfring retired after the 2016-17 season but not before leaving a lasting impact, particularly during his presidency from 1995 to 1999. Under his leadership, the Hurricanes achieved their first WHL Championship in 1997 and advanced to the Memorial Cup Final.
Elfring was recognized for his contributions to the league by receiving the WHL’s Distinguished Service Award in 2017. His commitment to the organization has helped shape the Hurricanes into a competitive force in junior hockey.
The induction ceremony on October 17 will celebrate both Pittis and Elfring, highlighting their remarkable achievements and lasting legacies within the Lethbridge Hurricanes franchise. The event underscores the team’s dedication to honoring those who have significantly contributed to its history and success.
