Local Church Hosts Free Clothing Share Event in Saanich

A community initiative is set to provide free clothing to those in need in Saanich. On October 18, 2023, the Shelbourne Street Church of Christ, located at 3460 Shelbourne St., will hold a clothing share event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.. This event aims to offer quality clothing, shoes, and accessories at no cost to attendees.
The clothing share will feature gently-used items suitable for all ages and sizes. Attendees can expect to find winter clothing, footwear, and accessories such as bags, belts, and scarves. The selection will include items appropriate for work, school, and everyday wear, ensuring a variety of choices for those who attend.
Nazeem Kottalath, responsible for marketing the event, emphasized the importance of accessibility. “This event is about building community connections and ensuring clothing is accessible to everyone who needs it,” he stated. “We’re creating a welcoming space where people can find what they need as we head into the cooler months.”
The church’s volunteers are organizing the clothing share as a part of their community service efforts. Everyone is welcome to participate, with no questions asked and no donations required. The initiative reflects a growing trend among local organizations to support those facing financial challenges, especially as winter approaches.
As the event draws near, Kottalath expressed optimism about its potential impact. He believes that providing free clothing not only meets immediate needs but also fosters a sense of community. “We want to ensure that everyone feels included and supported during this time of year,” he added.
This clothing share is part of a broader effort by various organizations to address clothing insecurity in the region. With rising costs of living, initiatives like this play a critical role in helping vulnerable community members. The Shelbourne Street Church of Christ aims to make a tangible difference by connecting individuals with essential resources.
For those interested in attending, the church is encouraging community members to stop by and take advantage of this opportunity. The event promises to be a valuable resource for families and individuals alike, reinforcing the importance of community support in challenging times.
