Lovina Celebrates Birth of Granddaughter Sharlene Lovina Yoder

Lovina Eicher, a renowned Old Order Amish writer and mother of eight, has announced the birth of her 14th grandchild, Sharlene Lovina Yoder. Sharlene was born on July 17, 2023, at 6:13 p.m., weighing 7 pounds, 11.8 ounces and measuring 20 inches in length. This new addition to the family brings a sense of balance, as she joins her two sisters and four brothers.
Lovina attended the hospital to witness the birth, expressing her amazement at the miracle of life and the uniqueness of each child. Both mother and infant are reported to be in good health. Lovina shared her joy, stating, “Little Sharlene has already won this grandma’s heart.” With six siblings eager to dote on her, the family is celebrating this precious bundle of joy.
In the days following Sharlene’s arrival, Lovina took the opportunity to care for her other grandchildren while their parents attended to Sharlene’s first doctor’s visit. She prepared a meal of spaghetti and meatballs to ensure the family had a nourishing dinner. Lovina noted that Susan, Sharlene’s mother, is managing a busy household without daytime assistance while Ervin, her husband, is at work.
The children eagerly shared their thoughts about the new baby. Kaitlyn Rose, age 8, expressed her excitement about having a baby sister and her anticipation for the upcoming school year, while her siblings, Jennifer Susan, Isaiah Edward, Ryan Isaiah, and Curtis Dale, also shared their joy and enthusiasm about starting school. Even the youngest, 20-month-old Ervin Jay, humorously reacted to the arrival of a new baby, laughing at Lovina’s queries.
Lovina highlighted the family’s journey, noting that Susan’s previous marriage ended tragically when her first husband, Mose, died in a car accident, leaving her with two children. Meanwhile, Ervin had lost his wife to breast cancer, leaving him with three children. Their union has created a blended family that continues to adapt and thrive, demonstrating resilience in the face of adversity.
The family has upcoming celebrations, including weddings on Wednesday and Thursday, although Lovina mentioned they might not be able to attend. She extended her congratulations to the couples, Daniel and Marilyn, and Michael and Christina, wishing them long and happy marriages.
In addition to family milestones, Lovina’s son Joseph will celebrate his 23rd birthday on July 24, followed by grandson Ryan’s 6th birthday on July 27. A grilled supper was held in Joseph’s honor, attended by family members, including Lovina’s sister Verena.
For readers interested in Lovina’s culinary adventures, she shares a refreshing recipe for Zucchini Salad, which includes ingredients such as zucchini, green onions, and olive oil, perfect for summer gatherings.
Lovina Eicher continues to engage with her audience through her writing. She has published three cookbooks, including “The Cherished Table” and “The Essential Amish Cookbook.” Readers can reach out to her via mail or email for questions and comments, although she does not personally respond to emails.
In her ongoing journey as a writer, cook, and matriarch, Lovina embraces the joys and challenges of family life, reminding us of the strength found in togetherness.
