Macy Gochanour Shatters School Scoring Record in Fieldcrest Win
In an impressive display of talent, Macy Gochanour led the Fieldcrest Knights to a 60-46 victory over Tremont in a Heart of Illinois Conference/McLean County Tournament game held in Tremont. Gochanour scored 32 points, surpassing the previous school scoring record of 1,765 points held by Haley Ruestman. With a new total of 1,787 points, Gochanour has set a remarkable milestone for both boys and girls basketball at Fieldcrest.
Gochanour’s outstanding performance was complemented by contributions from TeriLynn Timmerman, who added 15 points, and Pru Mangan, who contributed 10 points. The victory improves Fieldcrest’s season record to 11 wins and 11 losses. The team is set to face El Paso-Gridley in the fifth-place game scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
In other girls’ basketball action, Princeton secured a narrow 48-44 win against Kewanee. Keighley Davis was instrumental in this victory, scoring 26 points and making six rebounds alongside five steals. Her teammate Payton Brandt also made a significant impact with 17 points and four rebounds, contributing to Princeton’s record of 16 wins and 4 losses.
In a dominant performance, Bureau Valley triumphed over Monmouth United with a score of 58-25. Libby Endress led the Storm with 21 points, while Brynley Doty and Ashlyn Maupin each added nine points, pushing Bureau Valley’s record to 16-7 and 5-1 in the Lincoln Trail Conference.
In boys’ basketball, Tri-Valley edged past Fieldcrest in a thrilling overtime match, winning 75-70. Despite a stellar performance from Kash Klendworth, who scored 40 points, Fieldcrest could not secure the win, leaving their record at 11 wins and 8 losses.
Additionally, in women’s basketball, IVCC defeated Highland 59-52. Jasmine Garman led the Eagles with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Ashlyn Ehm contributed 16 points. This victory marks a successful moment for IVCC in the Arrowhead Conference.
In boys’ swimming, the La Salle-Peru co-op achieved a remarkable victory at the L-P Pentathlon, amassing a total of 14,499 points. They outperformed competitors such as Metamora, Morris, and Olympia. Jonathan Neu clinched the individual title with 4,040 points, showcasing exceptional skill, including the fastest time in the 100-yard butterfly at 56 seconds.
These recent performances illustrate the competitive spirit and athletic excellence present in local schools, highlighting the achievements of individual athletes and teams alike. As the season progresses, fans can anticipate more thrilling matchups and record-breaking performances across various sports.
