Maitri Receives Grant to Enhance Sober Living Support
Wellness and Recovery with Maitri, a nonprofit organization based in Peru, has secured a grant from the Illinois Valley Sunrise Rotary Club aimed at enhancing the support offered to residents of its Sober Living Facility. This funding will facilitate the purchase of YMCA memberships, hygiene wellness packs, and gift cards to assist individuals in their recovery journey.
The grant will provide essential items to residents transitioning into the facility. The hygiene wellness packs include crucial everyday items such as hairbrushes, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, and conditioner. These packs are designed to help individuals regain their independence after experiencing addiction, long-term incarceration, or treatment.
In addition to hygiene essentials, the grant will fund the acquisition of two $500 gift cards from Walmart. These cards will enable residents to purchase necessary items, with the support of a peer recovery specialist. The specialist’s responsibilities include managing the gift card transactions and guiding residents throughout the shopping process, ensuring they receive the support needed during this critical time.
Empowering Residents Through Skills Development
The Sober Living Facility focuses on equipping residents with independent living skills. This includes practical training for employment, such as resume writing and interview preparation. The aim is to empower individuals to reintegrate into society successfully.
Furthermore, the YMCA memberships will play a significant role in promoting physical wellness among residents. Access to gym facilities supports the establishment of healthy routines, which are vital for maintaining a balanced lifestyle. The emphasis on self-care within the residential program is a cornerstone of Maitri’s approach to recovery.
Wellness and Recovery with Maitri operates the Sober Living Facility as part of its broader mission to provide holistic support to those recovering from addiction. Many residents come from long-term inpatient facilities, jails, or prisons and are typically at least 30 days sober before entering the program.
This grant from the Illinois Valley Sunrise Rotary Club marks a significant step forward in enhancing the resources available to residents. By providing essential items and support for skill development, Maitri continues to foster an environment conducive to recovery and independent living.
