Oakville Teens Invited to Create Mural at Community Centre

The town of Oakville has launched its third youth mural project, inviting local teenagers to participate in creating a significant public artwork this fall. Collaborating with the Oakville Youth Action Committee, the initiative allows youth to contribute creatively under the guidance of Ray Vidal, a local artist. This year’s mural will be painted at the Iroquois Ridge Community Centre.

Twelve selected participants, aged between 13 and 17, will have the opportunity to design and execute a large-scale indoor mural. The project is designed to be inclusive, with no previous art experience required; instead, organizers encourage enthusiasm for learning and collaboration. Participants will also accumulate up to 42 volunteer hours as part of this free program, which includes art workshops and one-on-one mentorship.

The mural’s theme centers on imagination, teamwork, and the vital role of youth in shaping the Oakville community. The project continues to build on the success of previous years, with past murals displayed at both the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre and the River Oaks Community Centre.

Applications for this year’s project will remain open until September 8, 2025. This initiative not only fosters artistic expression but also strengthens community ties by engaging young residents in a shared creative endeavor.
