In a review of historical events occurring on November 22, the city reflects on various significant happenings. On this date in 1975, an inspection of the ore carrier Edmund Fitzgerald revealed that the vessel was in satisfactory condition despite minor damage to some hatch girders. This finding underscored the importance of regular maintenance to ensure the safety of maritime operations.
The community of East Korah United Church is embarking on a building program to enhance its facilities. The church, which has been operational since 1961, will construct a new superstructure on its existing basement. This initiative aims to provide a more accommodating space for worship and community activities.
On the same date in 1950, members of the Sault Separate School Board announced their decisions regarding re-election. Trustees M. Lee, J. Scarfone, and W. Ross opted not to seek another term, while L.J. McLean, E. DeCourcy, and H. Soltys confirmed their intentions to run again, highlighting the ongoing changes in local educational leadership.
The city also mourned the passing of F.A. Denman, a notable businessman and council member, who died at the age of 46. His contributions to the community were recognized through various positions of trust, reflecting his commitment to local development.
Additionally, the Soo and Steelton Choral Union was organized during a public meeting held at St. Luke’s Hall. The group, led by C.J. Ferguson, aims to foster community through music, with members including Oswald Davies, A. Calver, Daisy Moss, A.W. Lawrence, H.A. Lewis, and S.C. Biggings. J.D. Gordon serves as the accompanist, adding to the group’s musical talent.
