Brian Edwin Backler and his wife, Gertrude Geraldine Rudolph, were cherished members of their community, leaving behind a legacy of love and family. Brian, born on August 26, 1937, in Vernon, British Columbia, passed away on May 20, 2023, at the age of 85 in Campbell River, where he had resided for the past two decades. His beloved wife, Gertrude, who was born on August 25, 1931, in Port Bickerton, Nova Scotia, followed him in death on August 27, 2024, also in Campbell River.
A Celebration of Their Lives
A joint service to celebrate the lives of Brian and Gertrude will take place on September 27, 2025, at 2 PM at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, located at 2 Port Bickerton Road, Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia B0J 1A0. Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories of the couple who spent over 50 years together in marriage.
For those unable to attend the service, an online memorial has been created where people can share their thoughts and memories: Memorial Page. This platform allows for a collective remembrance of Brian and Gertrude, celebrating their impact on those around them.
Family Legacy
Brian and Gertrude are survived by their two daughters, Wendi and Sandra, as well as their sons-in-law, Bryan and Jeremey. Their family is further enriched by six grandchildren: Matthew, Jasmine, Keeley, Nathaniel, Jackson, and Lauren. The couple also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces, including Monte, Todd, Guy, Wade, and Viola, along with their families.
In lieu of gifts, the family requests that donations be made to the Princeton General Hospital, honoring Brian and Gertrude’s commitment to their community and healthcare. They will be remembered not only for their love for each other but also for their dedication to family and friends.
Their story is a poignant reminder of the bonds that tie families together, and their memory will live on through the lives they touched.
