Toronto Man Wins $60 Million Lottery, Plans to Secure Parents’ Future

A 26-year-old from Toronto, Bocheng Mei, has transformed his life after winning the astonishing $60 million Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball jackpot in the draw held on May 7, 2023. This windfall not only brings financial security to him but also offers a chance for his parents to retire comfortably.
Mei’s journey to this life-changing event started with two key decisions. First, he opted for an online subscription with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) that ensured he would never miss a draw. “I saw lottery winners in the news and on social media, so I decided to check out OLG.ca,” he shared during a celebratory event in Toronto. By selecting his own numbers and adding the ENCORE option, Mei ensured that his tickets were automatically purchased for each draw, making the process seamless.
The second pivotal moment came when Mei answered a call from an unfamiliar number, which turned out to be from OLG. The lottery corporation notified him to check his account online, as he had missed an important email informing him of his win. “I started googling them to see if they were legit,” he recounted. “They just asked me to check my OLG.ca account.” Upon doing so, he discovered that he had won a staggering $60 million, leaving him in complete disbelief.
“I tried to take it all in, but it all felt like a dream,” Mei said. After the call, he returned to work, attempting to maintain his composure during a virtual meeting while grappling with the overwhelming news.
Once the workday ended, Mei reached out to his parents to share the incredible news. “I tried to be very calm when I told them I’d won a big prize,” he explained. “When I told them the prize was $60 million, I reassured them they would never need to worry about money again.” His parents were shocked but grateful to hear that their financial future was secure.
Adjusting to this monumental change took Mei about a week. Eventually, he shared his good fortune with a small group of close friends, who reacted with elation. “They started jumping for joy,” he said, reflecting on the excitement that mirrored his own feelings.
With his newfound wealth, Mei has an ambitious list of goals. He plans to pursue various educational opportunities, travel to experience different cultures, and witness the stunning Aurora Borealis in places like Finland and Iceland. A new home in Toronto is also on his agenda, but the most significant priority remains ensuring his parents’ well-being. “I can now change their lives along with my own,” he stated.
Mei’s win has sparked interest among his friends, many of whom previously abstained from purchasing lottery tickets. “Most of my friends don’t buy lottery tickets — I think I’m the only one. But now that this news is out, I think they’ll change their minds!” he remarked.
While Mei’s story offers a glimpse into the dreams that can be realized through luck, it also serves as a reminder of the inherent risks associated with gambling. Individuals are encouraged to gamble responsibly and seek help if they face gambling-related issues.
