United Way’s Ultimate Burger Battle Supports Local Communities
The United Way Eastern Ontario has launched the **Ultimate Burger Battle**, a month-long fundraiser that runs from **November 1 to 30, 2023**. This initiative unites local restaurants across the region to raise funds for vital community programs, including youth initiatives and mental health support.
Participating restaurants will donate **$2** from each signature burger sold to the United Way, contributing to efforts that foster safe and connected communities. According to **Lorena Costa**, a representative from the United Way East Ontario, this event not only provides delicious meals but also strengthens community ties. “The United Way Ultimate Burger Battle brings the community together through a very delicious meal,” Costa stated in an interview with CTV Your Morning Ottawa.
The fundraiser features **20 restaurants** from various locations including **Ottawa**, **Prescott Russell**, **Lanark County**, and **Renfrew County**. Costa emphasized the importance of creative fundraising efforts to support local businesses while addressing community needs. “We need to find more creative ways to bring people together and also support the community,” she added.
In order to participate, individuals can visit the United Way’s website to locate the restaurants involved and vote for their favorite burger. This interactive element encourages community engagement while supporting local eateries.
One of the participating establishments, the **Royal Oak**, has a long-standing tradition of community involvement. **Jason Miller**, a representative from the Royal Oak, highlighted the restaurant’s commitment to local initiatives. “It’s something the Royal Oak has been involved with over the last **45 years** in our community. It’s a pillar of our success during that time,” he remarked. Miller expressed enthusiasm for the Ultimate Burger Battle, describing it as an opportunity for creativity and collaboration with the United Way.
The event not only showcases culinary talent but also reinforces the restaurant’s dedication to giving back to the community that has supported them. “It was an opportunity for us to flex the creative muscles that we have and use those creative muscles to give back to the community,” Miller said.
As the Ultimate Burger Battle progresses, residents are encouraged to explore the participating restaurants and contribute to this meaningful cause.
