Vancouver Island’s Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge Earns Top Hotel Honor

A luxury wilderness resort on Vancouver Island has achieved recognition as one of the best hotels in Canada and the United States, according to travel company Fodor’s. The Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge, located northeast of Tofino, has been included in Fodor’s prestigious list of the top 100 hotels worldwide for 2026. Out of this exclusive selection, only 19 hotels were identified in Canada and the U.S., with just two representing Canada.

The Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge is uniquely accessible only by seaplane or boat, providing guests with a truly immersive experience in nature. Fodor’s describes the establishment as “a high-end spin on glamping,” featuring spacious canvas tents that often include ensuite bathrooms and heated floors. Nestled within the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Region, visitors can partake in a variety of activities such as horseback riding, whale watching, and “heli-hiking.” Culinary offerings at the lodge emphasize local ingredients, enhancing the overall experience.

Seasonally open from May through September, the lodge’s nightly rates range significantly, typically between $3,200 and over $6,000, depending on the selected dates for the 2026 season. This exclusive pricing reflects the lodge’s premium offerings and unique location.

The lodge’s accolades extend beyond this recent recognition. It has earned a Michelin rating of “three keys,” making it one of only two hotels in Canada to receive this distinction. Additionally, it was named one of British Columbia’s top hotels of the year by the World Travel Awards and ranked 25th among resorts globally by Conde Nast Traveler earlier this year.

Fodor’s recognizes the importance of authenticity in travel recommendations. In a statement released on October 30, the company emphasized that the annual Fodor’s Finest list is curated without sponsorship or external influence. Each property featured earns its place due to distinctive qualities and exceptional service.
