Wade Miller Honored with Commissioner’s Award for Football Excellence
Wade Miller, the president and CEO of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, received the prestigious Commissioner’s Award on November 16, 2025. This accolade is given annually to individuals or groups who have made significant contributions to Canadian football.
A Legacy of Leadership and Community Impact
In a statement, CFL Commissioner Stewart Johnston praised Miller, stating, “Wade is a true football hero to his team, his community and our entire country.” Miller, a native of Winnipeg, had a remarkable career as a player, participating in 11 seasons with the Bombers. He earned recognition as a special-teams standout and once held the league record for the most special-teams tackles.
Since assuming the role of president and CEO in 2013, Miller has guided the franchise through challenging times, both on and off the field. Under his leadership, and with the support of head coach Mike O’Shea and general manager Kyle Walters, the Bombers have achieved remarkable success. The team has recorded double-digit wins for nine consecutive seasons and made five straight appearances in the Grey Cup, winning the championship twice.
Community Engagement and Youth Initiatives
Miller’s influence extends beyond the field. He is recognized for his commitment to community engagement, particularly in promoting youth football across Manitoba. Johnston emphasized the importance of the Bombers’ community impact, stating, “While the victories and the fan support are tremendous, it’s the team’s impact in the community that will be felt for generations.” Under Miller’s stewardship, the Bombers sold out all nine of their home games this season, leading the CFL in attendance for the fourth consecutive year.
In addition to his work with youth football, Miller has been a staunch advocate for the league’s initiatives related to Indigenous community relations and reconciliation. His efforts have been instrumental in fostering a more inclusive environment within Canadian football.
The Canadian Press first reported on this recognition of Miller’s achievements, highlighting his significant role in shaping the future of the Bombers and Canadian football as a whole. As the franchise continues to thrive, Miller’s dedication to both the sport and the community remains an inspiring example for future leaders.
