In a remarkable achievement, Michelle Pitte, head coach of the Woodland Warriors, celebrated her 100th career win on September 27, 2023. The milestone came during a nonconference match at the Warrior Dome in Streator, where the Warriors secured a victory over Cornerstone Christian.

Volleyball Highlights from the Week

The Warriors improved their season record to 2-8 with this latest win, marking their second consecutive triumph. Pitte’s coaching tenure has been marked by significant progress, and this win solidifies her status among the top coaches in the region. The game saw a spirited performance from her players, contributing to a memorable night for the team.

In another match, the Sandwich Indians defeated Harvard with a 2-0 scoreline in a Kishwaukee River Conference clash, improving their overall record to 3-5. The set scores were 25-15 and 26-24. Key players included Alayla Harris, who recorded four kills and four blocks, alongside Khloe White with five assists. Liza Goodbread and Rylee Huml also made significant contributions to the victory.

Meanwhile, Pontiac hosted a match against Streator, where the visiting Bulldog Spikers suffered a loss, going down 0-2 with set scores of 25-12 and 25-15. The Streator team, now with a record of 6-2, struggled against Pontiac’s effective play, despite noteworthy performances from Maiya Lansford and Aubrey Jacobs.

In another encounter, Aurora Christian defeated Somonauk 2-0, with set scores of 25-21 and 25-11. Somonauk’s Ady Werner showed resilience, contributing four kills and three digs, but it was not enough to secure a win.

Golf Achievements at Deer Park

On the golf course, the Deer Park event saw Braxton Nelle emerge as the medalist, leading Roanoke-Benson to a first-place finish with a score of 163. Nelle’s impressive round of 39 was complemented by teammates Sawyer Ernat with 43, and Connor Cooper and Tate Hopkins with scores of 48 and 49, respectively.

Woodland, competing alongside Roanoke-Benson and Marquette, finished with a total score of 185. For Woodland, Brayden Matsko and Nolan Price both performed well, finishing under 50.

In boys soccer, Cornerstone Christian defeated Streator 3-2 in a nonconference match held in Bloomington, adding further excitement to the week’s sporting events.

The achievements in volleyball and golf highlight the competitive spirit thriving in the region, showcasing both individual and team efforts that contribute to the sports community.
