Woodstock North secured a decisive 49-0 victory over crosstown rival Woodstock on October 27, 2023. This impressive win not only showcased the Thunder’s dominance on the field but also marked a significant milestone for senior running back David Randecker, who became the school’s all-time leading rusher.

The Thunder, improving their record to 6-3 overall and 5-2 in conference play, scored a touchdown on every possession during the game. All touchdowns resulted from their powerful rushing attack, highlighting their offensive efficiency. Randecker led the charge with 168 rushing yards on 16 carries, including two touchdowns.

“It feels amazing. It helped being able to play on varsity as a sophomore,” Randecker stated. “But honestly, I want to thank my teammates and my coaches for being willing to trust me with the ball.” With this performance, he surpassed the previous record of 2,375 career rushing yards.

Quarterback Parker Halihan also contributed significantly, scoring three touchdowns with runs of 17, 16, and 1 yard. “We trust our linemen, and they made the difference tonight. We came in here focused and ready to go,” Halihan said. His performance balanced the offensive strategy, allowing Woodstock North to maintain control throughout the match.

The Thunder’s defense was equally formidable, limiting the Blue Streaks to just 37 rushing yards and 102 passing yards. Defensive players Conlan Leese and Jr Fadahunsi each recorded an interception, while Aaron Christofalos recovered a fumble. Randecker also contributed defensively with a tackle-for-loss, and Adan Castaneda made a crucial pass break-up.

“Our defense capitalized on some opportunities. We had a couple of picks and made plays when we needed to,” Randecker added. The Thunder’s shutout victory not only emphasized their offensive prowess but also showcased their defensive strength, setting the tone for the upcoming playoffs.

Looking ahead, Woodstock North is preparing for their playoff matchup, which will be determined on Saturday. Halihan expressed confidence in his team’s ability to compete, stating, “We know that it will be a difficult game no matter who we play next week, so we need to keep working hard at practice and hopefully we can keep it rolling.”

On the other hand, Woodstock, with a record of 5-4 and 3-4 in conference play, is also likely heading to the playoffs. “This is our first time in 16 years making the playoffs, so we’re really excited about playing playoff football,” said head coach Mike Brasile. Quarterback Caden Thompson completed 13 of 23 passes for 102 yards, while teammate Matthew Cress caught five passes for 52 yards.

As both teams prepare for the postseason, the Thunder will carry the momentum of their historic victory, while the Blue Streaks aim to build on their playoff experience.
