The Alberta Next Panel, spearheaded by Premier Danielle Smith, held a public engagement event in Medicine Hat on the evening of September 2, 2023. The initiative aims to gather public input on strategies for addressing provincial concerns and pushing back against federal policies from Ottawa. This session marks the sixth stop of the Panel’s tour, which continues through September.

During the event, the Panel posed a series of pre-set questions designed to solicit feedback from attendees. Topics ranged from the establishment of a provincial pension plan to potential constitutional changes. Participants were encouraged to express their views on how Alberta can enhance its autonomy and governance in relation to federal authorities.

Attendance at the event required pre-registration, with free tickets available through the official website, albertanextpanel.ca. The gathering took place at the Cypress Centre, located within the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede Grounds, starting at 6:00 p.m..

Following the Medicine Hat session, the Alberta Next Panel will visit Lethbridge on September 11, 2023, as part of its broader outreach initiative. This series of events reflects the government’s commitment to engaging with Alberta residents on significant provincial matters and gathering diverse perspectives on the future direction of the province.

As discussions continue, the outcomes of these sessions may influence the government’s approach to key issues affecting Albertans, reinforcing the importance of public participation in the democratic process.
