Calgary Police Investigate Homicide of 16-Year-Old Carter Spivak-Villeneuve

The death of a 16-year-old boy, identified as Carter Spivak-Villeneuve, is being investigated as a homicide by the Calgary Police. Spivak-Villeneuve was found deceased early on Friday, March 15, 2024, at approximately 1:20 a.m. in the 300 block of Abergale Drive N.E. Family friends have described him as “a light to everyone who knew him,” underscoring the profound impact of his loss on the community.
Following the discovery of Spivak-Villeneuve’s body, Calgary Search and Rescue teams have been actively searching the Abbeydale area for evidence related to the incident. Acting Staff Sgt. Derek MacNaughton of the Calgary police operations intelligence group stated that the investigation remains in its early stages, but assured the public that there is no ongoing threat. Most police units have since left the area, with updates expected to be provided through official channels.
Residents of Abbeydale have expressed their shock and sadness over the incident. One long-time resident shared their feelings with Postmedia, stating, “It’s just sad. I was born and raised in this community, and I’ve watched it over the years… but it’s sad that someone passed away.” Another homeowner reported that their grandson had known Spivak-Villeneuve from a young age, recalling that he had visited their home in the past.
Witnesses in the vicinity reported hearing gunshots shortly after midnight on the night of the incident. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are working to gather as much information as possible from the community.
In response to this tragedy, friends of Spivak-Villeneuve have launched an online fundraiser to support his family, aiming to raise $22,000. A statement on the fundraising page reflects the deep affection felt for the teenager, describing him as “more than just a teenager — he was a son, a brother, a nephew, a cousin, a friend and grandchild.” It continues, “Carter had so much life left to live and love left to give.”
As the family navigates this difficult time, they have not yet made any public comments. One of the fundraiser organizers emphasized the family’s need for privacy, stating, “Carter was a sweet boy who just wanted to be loved by everyone.” Plans for a private service will be made once sufficient funds have been raised.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Carter Spivak-Villeneuve’s death continues, with the Calgary Police urging anyone with information to come forward.
