Columbia Valley RCMP Addresses Scams, Safety, and Gun Use
During the week of September 1 to September 7, the Columbia Valley RCMP responded to a total of 75 calls for service. Various incidents were reported, highlighting community concerns ranging from scam attempts to safety issues.
Scam Alert: Impersonators Target Residents
On September 5, officers received a report about three individuals posing as representatives from Rogers, who were soliciting business door-to-door. A vigilant homeowner became suspicious of their intentions and decided to verify the legitimacy of the visit by contacting Rogers directly. The company confirmed that these individuals were not affiliated with them. Following the information, police conducted patrols in the area where the men were last seen, but they were not located.
Pellet Gun Safety Incident Addressed
Another incident occurred on September 7 when the RCMP responded to a report from a concerned neighbor regarding careless use of a pellet gun. The neighbor reported that a pellet had struck their vehicle. Officers arrived at the scene and identified the individual responsible for using the pellet gun. The individual was unaware that the pellets were ricocheting and received education on safe practices for using such firearms.
As the new school year commences, the Columbia Valley RCMP has issued a reminder to the community about child safety. With children returning to school, it is imperative for drivers to be vigilant while on the roads. The RCMP emphasized the legal requirement for vehicles to stop when school buses display flashing red lights and extend their stop signs. Compliance with this law is crucial, and violations may result in fines, reinforced by the fact that school buses are equipped with cameras to capture such offenses.
The Columbia Valley RCMP remains committed to ensuring community safety and encourages residents to report suspicious activities and adhere to safety regulations.
