On November 11, communities throughout Vancouver Island will come together to commemorate the sacrifices made by Canada’s veterans. This annual event, known as Remembrance Day, honors those who served the nation in various conflicts, including the First and Second World Wars. From 1914 to 1918, over 650,000 Canadians participated in the First World War, with more than 66,000 losing their lives. In World War II, approximately 1.15 million Canadians served, resulting in over 44,000 fatalities.

To facilitate remembrance, the Government of Canada has established an online database allowing individuals to search for the service records of relatives who fought in historical conflicts. This database includes comprehensive details such as dental and medical records. For more information, individuals can visit Canada.ca.
