Pro-Trump Musician Sean Feucht to Perform at Alberta Legislature

U.S. musician Sean Feucht is scheduled to perform at the Alberta Legislature grounds in Edmonton on August 22, 2023. This event is part of his east coast Canadian tour, which has faced multiple venue changes and cancellations due to protests and security concerns. Feucht, known for his pro-Trump stance and Christian music, has encountered significant opposition during his tour.
Feucht’s upcoming performance at the Alberta Legislature grounds will take place at the south bandshell. A spokesperson for Alberta Infrastructure confirmed that tour organizers submitted an incomplete event permit application. The spokesperson noted that officials are assisting organizers in completing the necessary requirements, which include compliance with security protocols, public safety measures, and venue guidelines. The guidelines stipulate that applications must be submitted at least four weeks in advance and require a minimum of $2 million in liability insurance, along with a security plan and proof of relevant permits.
Feucht describes himself as a musician, missionary, author, and activist. His support for former U.S. President Donald Trump and the Make America Great Again movement, along with his views on abortion, gender issues, and the LGBT community, have drawn criticism and sparked protests.
Earlier this week, Feucht was scheduled to perform at the York Redoubt National Historic Site in Halifax. However, Parks Canada revoked the event’s permit, citing “evolving safety and security considerations” after consultations with local police. The event eventually took place when a local farmer offered his field for the performance. Despite this setback, Feucht has found alternate venues for subsequent shows, although many have faced cancellations.
In addition to Halifax, events in cities including Charlottetown, Fredericton, Quebec City, Moncton, and Gatineau have also been canceled due to security concerns and permitting issues. On social media, Feucht claimed that his shows continued after alternative venues were secured, stating, “Venues have now been replaced and these cities will hear from lawyers soon.”
The situation escalated during his performance in Montreal, where protests occurred, and a smoke bomb was thrown on stage. Feucht reported that the church hosting the event had not obtained the proper permits, despite prior assurances. He also claimed to have communicated with senior officials at the White House regarding what he described as “blatant Christian persecution” in Canada.
Upcoming events in Vaughn, Ontario, just outside of Toronto, have also faced challenges. The city canceled the event’s permit, citing health and safety concerns as well as community standards.
As Feucht’s tour progresses, the implications for both the performer and the venues highlight ongoing tensions surrounding issues of free expression and public safety in Canada. The Alberta Legislature Grounds event remains contingent on meeting all necessary requirements and addressing security protocols, ensuring that both the performer and attendees can participate in a safe environment.
