Rigaud Faces Competitive Elections as Pointe-Fortune Sees Acclamations
Residents of Rigaud will head to the polls on November 2, 2025, to elect a new mayor and fill multiple council seats, while in Pointe-Fortune, five council positions have been acclaimed, ensuring a smooth transition for those incumbents. In Rigaud, the mayoral race features a contest between two current councillors: Kevin Ménard and Charles Meunier. This election comes as Marie-Claude Frigault, the current mayor who was elected in 2021, has chosen not to seek re-election.
Voters in Rigaud will see a robust lineup of candidates for each council seat. The first council seat will see Jamie Nicholls from Ensemble Rigaud competing against Nathalie Wilson. The second seat has a three-way contest involving Catherine Larose from Ensemble Rigaud, Radu Neacsu, and Edouard Lawlor. The third council seat will be contested between Cynthia Poulin-Huard from Ensemble Rigaud and Juliette Rochman. For the fourth seat, candidates include Carole Forget, Caroline Quesnel, and Mélisande Giraldeau, representing Ensemble Rigaud.
Incumbent councillor Yves Pelletier, also from Ensemble Rigaud, will seek re-election for the fifth seat, facing Élie Forest. Additionally, Alain Lapointe, the sixth seat councillor, is aiming to retain his position against Michel Berichon. Advance voting for Rigaud is scheduled for October 26, from noon to 20:00, at the Paul-Brasseur Building located at 10 Rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste East. On election day, voting will occur at Bourget College at 65 Rue Saint-Pierre from 10:00 to 20:00.
In Pointe-Fortune, the political landscape looks quite different. The current mayor Sandra Lavoratore has been acclaimed by fellow councillors, marking a significant moment as she becomes the first female mayor of the town following the resignation of François Bélanger in May 2025. The mayoral race in Pointe-Fortune includes incumbent councillor Jacques Beaudoin, who was elected to the fifth council seat in November 2021, alongside Denis Théberge and Lavoratore herself.
Meanwhile, two councillors from the 2021 elections, Christiane Berniquez (third seat) and Gilles Tétrault (sixth seat), have been acclaimed and will automatically retain their positions. The second seat will see Isabelle Lemontzis acclaimed as Gilles Deschamps opts not to seek re-election. The fourth seat has been acclaimed by José Leroux, and Lisette Boucher will take the fifth seat without contest.
Advance voting in Pointe-Fortune will be held at the community centre located at 694 Rue du Tisseur, also from noon to 20:00. Election-day voting will take place in the same location from 10:00 to 20:00.
As the November elections approach, both communities are preparing for significant changes in leadership and representation.
