Tom Roulston Launches Campaign for Lethbridge City Council
A local journalist and broadcaster, Tom Roulston, has officially announced his candidacy for the Lethbridge City Council in the upcoming municipal elections scheduled for October 8-20, 2025. Roulston’s entry into the race aims to bring a fresh perspective and a collaborative approach to local governance.
In a recent questionnaire, Roulston expressed his motivation for running: “I’m running for City Councillor because I love Lethbridge and I want to see it thrive.” He emphasized the need for leaders who foster a positive environment in city hall, prioritizing collaboration and informed decision-making. His intention is to listen to expert opinions and approach challenges with compassion and understanding.
Roulston’s extensive background in broadcast and digital journalism spans over 16 years, shaping his understanding of community dynamics and the importance of diverse viewpoints. “If elected, I intend to take that same balanced approach to city hall,” he stated. His experience in news has provided him with a unique vantage point, allowing him to stay attuned to the issues affecting Lethbridge over the past decade and a half.
As a news manager until recently, Roulston has guided many young reporters in embracing journalistic principles, overcoming challenges, and celebrating their achievements. His advocacy for the Canadian journalism industry was also notable during his tenure on the national executive of Unifor Local M-1, one of the largest media locals in Canada, from 2021 to 2023.
Roulston outlined several priorities should he be elected. He plans to engage with voters throughout the campaign to refine his agenda. One key focus is easing the financial burden on taxpayers while maintaining essential city services. He is committed to advocating for provincial and federal support for critical infrastructure investments, including a proposed third river crossing.
Public safety and affordable housing are also high on Roulston’s agenda. He recognizes that these issues are vital for many residents, stating, “It’s critical we continue ongoing discussions to find solutions on both fronts.” He aims to address the root causes of these challenges with a compassionate and understanding approach.
For those interested in learning more about Roulston’s campaign and platform, he directs voters to his website at www.electtomroulston.ca. Additionally, a Facebook group titled Vote Tom Roulston has been established for further engagement.
