West Shore RCMP Seeks Public Assistance to Identify Fraud Suspect
Mounties from the West Shore RCMP are reaching out to the public for assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a fraud incident on Vancouver Island. The alleged crime, described as a “quick change” fraud, took place on November 14, 2023, around 10:00 a.m. at a business located in the 800 block of Langford Parkway.
According to a news release from the West Shore RCMP, this type of fraud occurs when a suspect confuses the cashier into returning more cash than what was initially given for a purchase. Typically, the fraudster pays for a low-cost item using a high denomination bill. As the cashier processes the transaction, the suspect requests different denominations or presents additional money, leading to an increased return of cash.
Details of the Suspect
The police have provided a description of the suspect. He is characterized as a dark-skinned man in his 40s, with a slim build and black hair that exhibits a receding hairline. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black jacket over a white hoodie, complemented by dark jeans and black shoes.
The West Shore RCMP noted that a similar incident involving the same suspect was reported earlier in November in Sidney, which contributes to the urgency of identifying him.
Public Appeal for Information
Authorities are urging anyone who may recognize the suspect to come forward. Individuals with information are encouraged to contact West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477. Your assistance could be vital in resolving this case and preventing further fraudulent activities in the community.
The West Shore RCMP continues to emphasize the importance of public vigilance in combating fraud and appreciates any information that can lead to the identification and apprehension of the suspect.
