A new collaboration between a Winnipeg brewery and a local social media personality aims to support victims of the recent wildfires in Manitoba. On August 24, 2023, the brewery will launch the New Leaf Lager, a hoppy lager made with donated ingredients, at a special event designed to raise funds for relief efforts.

The initiative brings together One Great City Brewing Co. and local beer enthusiast Trevor Allain, known for his engaging social media presence. The lager is crafted using malt donated by Scythe Malting from Manitoba and hops provided by JGL Shepherd Farms in Saskatchewan. The brewing process, which Allain assisted with, reflects community spirit amidst adversity.

The launch event will take place at the brewery from noon to 22:00, featuring not only the debut of New Leaf Lager but also a tap takeover. Various local breweries, including other Winnipeg establishments and contributors from Calgary, will serve their beers, with all proceeds directed to the Canadian Red Cross for wildfire relief. Each pint will be priced at $5, and $1 from each can sold will also be donated to support affected communities.

Attendance at the event is free, and guests can enjoy live music alongside food and drinks available for purchase. The idea behind this collaboration is to use the brewing community’s collective efforts to aid those in need while celebrating local craftsmanship.

In addition to the brewery event, the Winnipeg area has a busy drinks scene in the coming week. For those interested in a unique experience, Fort Garry Brewing is hosting a “Smash Fest,” featuring five different brews made from a single malt and single hop. This event will also include a special menu and live music.

Moreover, the Manitoba chapter of the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers will host a pink wine showcase on August 28, 2023, allowing wine lovers to indulge in a variety of styles while enjoying the summer’s end on the rooftop patio of the Metropolitan Entertainment Centre.

For those who prefer natural wines, Little Brown Jug Brewery will host its seventh Natural Wine Party on August 29, featuring wines crafted with minimal intervention. This event aims to showcase the growing trend of natural wines and will include small bites served by well-known local chefs.

As the community rallies together through these events, the collaboration between One Great City Brewing Co. and Trevor Allain stands out as a significant effort to support those impacted by the wildfires in Manitoba. The launch of New Leaf Lager not only provides a refreshing beverage but also reinforces the importance of community solidarity during challenging times.
