Winnipeg Brewery Launches New Beer to Support Wildfire Relief

A Winnipeg brewery has partnered with a local beer enthusiast to create a special brew aimed at supporting victims of the recent wildfires in Manitoba. The new beer, named New Leaf Lager, will be launched on August 24, 2023, during a celebratory event held at the brewery from noon to 22:00.
Trevor Allain, a local social media personality known for his passion for beer, collaborated with the brewery to produce this hoppy lager. The ingredients include donated malt from Scythe Malting and hops from JGL Shepherd Farms in Saskatchewan, showcasing the community’s commitment to supporting those affected by the wildfires.
The launch event will feature a tap takeover by One Great City, showcasing selections from various local breweries. Small businesses have come together for this cause, with all participating breweries donating their beer. Each pint will be priced at $5, and all proceeds will be directed to the Canadian Red Cross to aid wildfire relief efforts. Additionally, $1 from every can of New Leaf Lager sold will also contribute to the relief fund.
Entry to the event is free, and attendees can enjoy live music and a variety of food and drinks available for purchase.
As the community rallies to support wildfire victims, other events are taking place in Winnipeg. Half Pints Brewing is hosting a “Smash Fest” on the same day, featuring a selection of brews made with single malt and single hops. This celebration of craft beer includes a special menu and live DJs, making it a vibrant addition to the local drink scene.
Additionally, the Manitoba chapter of the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers (CAPS) is organizing a wine showcase titled “Drink Pink” on August 28, 2023. This event will highlight various styles of pink wines and will take place on the rooftop patio of the Metropolitan Entertainment Centre.
For those interested in natural wines, a party is set for August 29, 2023, at a local brewery and wine store, featuring minimal intervention wines and special guests serving small bites.
In the spirit of community engagement, Winnipeg Wine and Mead is offering vineyard tours and tastings on September 7, 2023. Participants will visit the Pembina Valley vineyard, with tickets priced at $120 including transportation, or $100 without.
The collaborative efforts of local breweries and businesses demonstrate the community’s resilience and unity in times of crisis. By supporting initiatives like the launch of New Leaf Lager, residents are making a tangible difference for those impacted by the wildfires in Manitoba.
