Australia Leads the World in AI Engagement with 5M Uses Per Capita
Australia has emerged as the leading nation in artificial intelligence (AI) engagement, with a staggering 5 million recorded uses of AI per capita. A recent study by the research firm Eskimoz highlights this trend, revealing that Australians collectively engage with AI platforms over 1.35 billion times annually. This marks a significant increase in AI adoption, reflecting a broader global reliance on technology.
The survey evaluated three key factors: total visits to AI-related websites and applications, traffic per 100,000 residents, and the rate of visits to AI tools. By focusing on per capita data, the analysis ensured that larger countries did not skew the rankings. The results show a clear pattern of AI usage across nations, particularly in Australia, where nearly 2% of all traffic is directed towards AI tools, such as chatbots and content generators.
Global AI Usage Trends
Following closely behind Australia, the Netherlands ranks second with approximately 4.9 million visits per capita. Dutch users engage with AI services about 917 million times each year, with AI tools comprising just over 1% of that activity. Meanwhile, Canada claims the third spot, with 4.7 million interactions per capita, translating to a significant 2 billion annual uses, primarily focused on specialized AI tools.
The United States takes fourth place, boasting the highest overall traffic to AI platforms. In a single year, AI was utilized 16.4 billion times across the country, with AI tools representing 20% of total traffic—the largest share among the nations studied. Despite its larger population, the U.S. maintains a per capita rate of 4.7 million AI interactions, closely trailing Canada.
The United Kingdom rounds out the top five, recording an average of 3.5 million AI visits per capita. This translates to 2.4 billion queries for AI annually, with AI tools accounting for 3% of all visits. Notably, Germany ranks sixth, generating 2.6 billion uses and demonstrating a strong reliance on AI tools, which represent 3.18% of all traffic.
Other Notable Countries in AI Engagement
Spain, in seventh place, shows a comparable level of AI activity to Australia, with approximately 1.4 billion visits. This results in a per capita rate of 3 million AI uses, with specialized AI tools making up 1.77% of interactions. France follows closely, averaging 2.9 million AI interactions per person, leading to a total of 1.9 billion visits to AI platforms, while also demonstrating a dependency on AI tools at 2.4%.
Peru stands out as the only South American country on the list, ranking ninth with an AI usage rate of 2.6 million. The nation recorded 926 million total visits to AI platforms, with a notable reliance on AI tools, which account for 1.15% of total consumption. Rounding out the top ten is Malaysia, which achieved a rate of 2.4 million interactions per 100,000 residents, totaling 888 million visits to AI platforms.
The findings underscore a growing global trend towards increased reliance on AI technologies, with countries like Australia leading the way in engagement. As AI continues to shape various aspects of society, these statistics highlight the diverse patterns of usage across different nations, revealing both opportunities and challenges in the integration of these technologies.
