Campbell River Genealogy Society Hosts Seminar on Research Skills
The Cambell River Genealogy Society is set to host an online seminar on November 8, 2023, aimed at enhancing genealogy research skills. The session will focus on the Genealogical Proof Standard (GPS), a framework designed to ensure rigorous standards in genealogical research.
Participants will learn about the five key elements of the GPS. These include conducting reasonably exhaustive research, providing complete and accurate source citations, performing thorough analysis and correlation, resolving conflicting evidence, and developing soundly reasoned, coherently written conclusions.
The seminar will be led by Eva Holmes, a genealogist and educator from Maine, who specializes in research pertaining to New England and Atlantic Canada. Holmes brings extensive experience and knowledge to the session, promising a valuable opportunity for both novice and seasoned researchers.
Pre-registration is necessary to attend the seminar, which can be completed through the Zoom platform. A registration fee of $10 is required, with the deadline for registration set for November 7, 2023. Interested participants can register at the following link: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/MQAoFHx_TlK59EaOKvwIDw.
This seminar represents an important resource for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of genealogical research methodologies. By employing the structured approach of the GPS, attendees will be better equipped to navigate the complexities of family history research.
