Chris Mudrick Takes Helm as Constellation’s Chief Nuclear Officer
Constellation has appointed Chris Mudrick as its new chief nuclear officer, effective September 29, 2025, as announced in a press release on September 4, 2023. He will succeed Dave Rhoades, who plans to retire at the end of this year after serving in the role since 2021.
Rhoades has made significant contributions to Constellation and the nuclear energy sector. Joe Dominguez, president and CEO of Constellation, praised Rhoades for his “indelible mark” on the company, highlighting his legacy in safety, reliability, and operational excellence. Mudrick’s extensive experience is expected to help maintain and enhance these standards across America’s largest nuclear fleet.
Under Rhoades’ leadership, Constellation has achieved an impressive capacity factor exceeding 94% over the past decade. His tenure has seen the company routinely lead the industry in key metrics, including annual capacity factors and outage durations, which are crucial indicators of reliability. Bryan Hanson, Constellation’s chief generation officer, emphasized Rhoades’ immeasurable contributions, asserting that Mudrick is well-positioned to continue this legacy.
Mudrick returns to Constellation after a four-year stint as chief nuclear officer at Bruce Power in Canada. His previous 30 years at Constellation included leadership roles that contributed to numerous operational innovations. Since rejoining the company, he has overseen the restart of the Crane Clean Energy Center and has been instrumental in supporting various growth initiatives.
Rhoades’ leadership has been marked by significant advancements in operational performance. One notable achievement has been the reduction of refueling outage durations from over a month to less than three weeks. This improvement results from Rhoades’ commitment to safety and meticulous planning, which has streamlined operations across Constellation’s clean energy centers.
As Mudrick steps into his new role, he faces the challenge of building on the strong foundation laid by Rhoades, ensuring that Constellation remains a leader in the nuclear energy sector. His deep industry experience, both domestically and internationally, is expected to be critical in delivering clean energy solutions to American homes and businesses.
Rhoades will conclude his nearly 40 years of service with Constellation at the end of this year, leaving behind a legacy of leadership and innovation. As Mudrick prepares to take the reins, the focus will remain on operational excellence and the commitment to clean energy that defines Constellation’s mission.
